Excellent hiking options in both, and you can spend more time exploring, less time driving With road closures at Death Valley, your options are limited and the most direct route to the park from Vegas is closed (or was last time I checked) Death Valley has so much to see, I would save it for a time when you can spend at least a couple days

I was there on February 24th with a full moon If you go to Zabriskie Point early in the morning you will pretty quickly be fighting twilight blue hour before the sun comes up, and the moon will be setting in front of you I went to Zabriskie on the evening of the 24th about 3 hours after sunset (8:30-9pm after a 5:30ish sunset)

Continue West and you’ll see the highest point in the continental US… Mt Whitney (kind of neat to see after visiting the lowest point in Badwater) You’ll the make a left on Hwy 395… I usually get gas in Olancha because there really isn’t that many chances until you get to Tehachapi Oh, you won’t be alone in Death Valley…

I recommend to get to, Zabriskie Point, at least 15, minutes before sunrise I would say this was the highlight of the trip, and what we did on the first morning We literally flew out of South Florida at 8pm the night before, landed in Vegas and drove overnight to get there for sunrise
