- The Amazing Mopar (Dodge Plymouth) 340 V8 Engine
340 V-8 engine parts identification (Steve Silver) Some of the 1970 340 Six-Pack engines had heads with a U or O casting letter in addition to the J, but they were still the same part number (the T A head had the intake valve pushrod holes drilled in a offset location) Valve covers for 340 engines were different than 318 valve covers

The 340: high performance in a small package The top LA engine for performance was almost certainly the 340 V-8, sold starting with the 1968 model year It had high-flow heads, big ports, a two-level intake manifold, and a six-barrel option (three two-barrel carbs) (See the full page on the 340 )

The 340 was a light weight powerhouse and combined with the lighter Duster made a great $3k street machine Dad tried a 360 2bbl in a 71 Sport Fury It was a decent engine in a big car but just didn’t have the ooomph a 383 2bbl had

340 has 1 88 (low performance) and 2 02 (performance heads) There are newer closed chamber heads the first of the roller cam engines shared which were the same for the 318 and 360 (verify this year, 1989? in the engines section) and a good bolt-on, they have 1 88 intakes and 360 ports

From the information I have, P N 3751831 looks like it is a cast crank for a 74 318 The 72 340 used both forged and cast cranks depending upon the build date Cast and forged cranks are not interchangeable I can't find P N 3751841
- 360 heads on 340? - Allpar Forums
The 340 and 360 used the same heads so for a stock setup, mild performance, out of the box and clean will work fine they should have the 1 88 intakes, and even if they aren't ported, less hassle than swapping to the Magnum heads The big key with the 340 in a low performance stock form is to get the compression up to at least 9:1

So do a little research on your '70 340 Six Pack, I would NOT be surprised in the least it has the hardened valve seats I think hardened valve seats were becoming popular way before they were mandated, even with leaded gas without the hardened valves seats, valves were a reliability problem on engines and many of the manufacturers were
