I have two questions regarding the CBP Form 4457 1 Besides the make, model, and serial number of the rifle, do you put the caliber? 2 Is it better to pre-fill the form using one of the fillable PDF versions of the form? Or is it better to have the info available and fill out the blank

A lot of local offices will NOT fill out 4457's in NJ They are supposed, but they won't I tried calling a bunch My goal was to avoid making two trips to the airport The problem now is with immigration being fully enforced, 4457's are the last priority for a lot of these offices I'm in NJ so I went to terminal B a few days before we flew out

So i just decided to make a road trip using 375 Ruger's directions It was actually quite easy to get there, and the signs told you where they were in the building But they'd run out of form 4457 and had gone to a copied form on an 8 5 x 11 sheet I've got the stamp and a signature, so I'm all set Must of taken all of 5 minutes once I got there

A few other thoughts on this form: 1 Call and make an appointment with CBP I didn't and I he instantly got an attitude 2 There is confusion on what you're supposed to put on the number line Could be several different things, I still don't know which is correct 3 4457's dont expire but for travel to SA the form needs to be dated the year

The 4457 serves two purposes For US customs it is simply a declaration you owned the items before leaving USA For African countries it’s essentially a US gun license Print out a 4457 and fill out all you can for your rifle, call your CBP office and make an appointment before your trip, bring rifle, have them verify, sign, and stamp the form
